Larry Brent Carey, 85, of Piqua, passed away on February 5, 2026 at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born on August 8, 1940 in Sidney to the late Edward Leroy and Virginia Irene (Sharpe) Carey. He married Sarah L. Cochran; a union that would span 41 years, and she survives.
Other survivors include his sons, Stephen (Melissa) Capps, John (Jennifer) Martin; his brother, Tom (Helen) Carey; and his eight grandchildren, who brought him great pride and joy. Larry also cared deeply for his niece, Marsha (Brian) Hegdahl, whom he loved and viewed as a daughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved son, Aaron Brent Carey.
In his younger years, Larry was an undefeated boxer in his late teens and later played semi-professional football for the Dayton Triangles, achievements that reflected both his strength and determination. A hard worker throughout his life, Larry worked in construction and was known for his ability to fix or build just about anything with his hands. Larry was a die-hard fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns, loyally cheering them on year after year. Most importantly, Larry loved Jesus and lived his life grounded in faith. He often spoke of his excitement to one day meet John the Baptist, a hope that brought him peace and joy. Larry will be remembered for his strength, work ethic, devotion to family, and unwavering faith. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His last words were, “I love you all” and “quit crying Steve.”
A service to honor his life will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 2026 at Meaningful Life Ministries, Sidney with Pastor Joe Clemons officiating.
